It took a rather arduous journey to arrive here. From beginning to end, when foot met pedal, slip sliding through distant New Jersey neighborhoods, to arrive at my final destination — at least for that day — I was hoping for the best. The town of Montclair, New Jersey, was not all that different than the suburban town of Linden I grew up in. It may have seemed a bit more upper class, but even as a child that’s kind of how we all saw…Continue Reading “Sinonasal Sarcoidosis: Getting My Nose Out Of Joint”

Cataracts The Eyes Have It

I came to his office for an eye exam; and left with an uneasy feeling. Since having been diagnosed with Sarcoid, over 10 years ago, I’ve had to go for regular eye exams, along with regular lung exams. Usually pretty routine. But this eye exam was a tad different. When Dr Sergio Peneiras of Brighton Eye Care was done with his full exam, he started telling me my vision hadn’t changed since my last visit a year ago. I was flummoxed. It seemed to me, my vision had changed dramatically around…Continue Reading “Cataracts: The Eyes Have It”

iMac And Back Again

Admittedly, I’ve been an Apple user and serious fanboy since 1986; when I bought my first Mac Plus for my Bond Street recording studio in Asbury Park. From there a Mac II — and ten years later — a SuperMac Mac-Clone. What always amazed me — besides a Mac’s ease of use , and creativity boosting abilities — was how long they lasted! I was never one to buy one Mac, then need to buy the latest and greatest out of Cupertino a year later. Mac’s…Continue Reading “iMac And Back Again 2008 – 2015”

It’s been over ten years since the beginning. Presenting as a mystery, wrappped in an enigma, wrapped in a disease that has no end; but it did have a beginning. Back in Seattle, the summer of 2002 at Bally’s Fitness, I noticed my breathing becoming labored, but nothing I couldn’t power through. It was the start of something. Months and years passed. A host of symptoms came and went. It was still difficult to breathe on occasion, but nothing to set off alarms — yet….Continue Reading “Sarcoid @ Rutgers: Looking For Clues”

Joe Grushecky Bruce Springsteen Wonder Bar

It was a sultry summer day at the Jesey shore — like so many others. People flocked to Asbury Park to help escape the heat and humidity of their homes.  The beaches and boardwalk were packed — like way back in the days of old! There were those who had also come to see Joe Grushecky And The Houserockers with special guest Eddie Manion on saxophone at the Wonder Bar. Though Grushecky and crew hail from Pittsburgh, PA, they have become sanctified by Asbury Park fans and…Continue Reading “Joe Grushecky & Bruce Springsteen @ Wonder Bar – Asbury Park NJ – 7.18.2015”

The Red Book Diaries - The Preamble

The Red Book Diaries — these posts will consist of excerpts of the raw transcribed diary pages I kept prior to, and during a month long trip I took with my friend Charlie Maraia back in 1982. We traveled to the UK and France. Sometimes these pages will be quite raw. Emotionally raw. Verbally raw. But accurate to what was going on and what I was feeling during those times. I may augment the text with photos, music, or other sundries to help illustrate what might have been…Continue Reading “The Red Book Diaries : The Preamble”

home And now. The End is near. And so I draw the final curtain. This is the last installment of my Heatwave photos …. The Pretenders @ Heatwave 1980. It was the first and only time I ever got the see the Pretenders. Or for that matter, Chrissie Hynde. I can’t say that I remember the set … but it was the Pretenders! It was 1980! They were kicking ass and taking names! How could they NOT be hot! They had released their fist albumn…Continue Reading “The Pretenders @ Heatwave 1980”

Rockpile @ Heatwave

Been scanning like crazy! Here are my photos of Rockpile With Nick Lowe & Dave Edmonds @ Heatwave 1980. Don’t know what more to say than what I’ve said in my other posts so far. This was the first time I had ever seen Nick Lowe, Dave Edmonds, or Rockpile. On that note alone … it was pretty cool. Add to the mix the rest of the bands playing that day … it was pretty amazing! The Heatwave festival took place on an overcast summer…Continue Reading “Rockpile With Nick Lowe & Dave Edmonds @ Heatwave 1980”
