There has been a building spree in my red neck of the woods. Seems they’re letting people build multi-story monstrosities on tiny lots. The previous one story converted summer bungalow that use to be there is just a distant memory. This is what I’ll look at every time I’m at the sink or look out my bedroom window. I’d hate to be the owner of the house next to this colossus as it now dwarfs & looks down on his home.

Before: 813 Bowsprit Point, Lanoka Harbor, NJ

The raised cinderblock foundation was built several years ago. It stood there like a monolithic placeholder for a home & life that once was—pre hurricane Sandy. After Sandy, all new homes had to be raised one story—blocking out more of the sky—in an ever shrinking amount of space here on the Jersey shore. And it seems the township is allowing more and more “high-rise” homes to be built on parcels of land that barely could hold one home. I guess greed and tax base win over every time.

The township has allowed 3 huge new raised multi-story homes just a few doors down from my mom’s house. Normally the lot size would have held maybe 2 homes, at best. But seems the builder got a variance to build 3 tightly spaced homes on the same lot. WTF next …. multi story hi-rise condos? This just irritates me to no end! 🤬🤬🤬🤬
